Dyfed lives on the beautiful island of Ynys Môn (Anglesey), in north Wales. He works part time for an international development charity and takes photographs in his spare time.
His interest in taking photographs goes back to his childhood when he had a small Kodak instamatic. A prized possession of his is an album of photos taken while on a once in a lifetime cruise on the Mediterranean when he was aged 14. The images of exotic places like Santorini, Jerusalem and Venice would hardly win any prizes, but nonetheless bring back powerful memories of a happy fortnight.
Later, while studying land use planning at Liverpool Polytechnic, he learned how to develop photographs in the dark room. This was in days of film, of course, and Dyfed bought his first SLR - a Praktica - especially to complete the course. With little knowledge of how to compose images or how to get the best out of his camera, however, the hobby never really developed at this time.
His first digital camera was a basic Kodak point-and-shoot. He bought his first Canon DSLR in the late 1990s and completed a short course under the tutoring of a local amateur photographer.
Currently he shoots using a Canon 70d and an Olympus E-M10II and processes his photos using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. He is currently following an online photography course with the Institute of Photography.
Today, Dyfed is still learning, still reaching for better images, still searching for the perfect light.
